ARH leads the way and installs a Centrox

The Animal Referral Hospital had a Centrox installed by Mediquip in September and has been making their own Oxygen ever since. This was one of the first Veterinary Practices in Australia to install an Oxygen Plant and is hence one of the first to reap the benefits!

Centrox and Reliant are two innovative Oxygen Supply systems that have been introduced to Australia in the last 6 months. In days gone buy veterinary practices would have to purchase Oxygen in Cylinders which can be quite costly and can invoke large delivery fees. You also have the added trouble of having to move and change heavy Oxygen Cylinders which is a workplace health and safety risk in itself!

These new systems do away with all of these issues as they generate near pure Oxygen from the Air we breathe. To do this they use a method called pressure swing adsorption (PSA) which removes the nitrogen from the air leavening 90% Oxygen. The Reliant supplies 8 litres per minute of oxygen suiting a small to medium practice while the Centrox supplies 15 litres per minute for larger practices. For universities and large veterinary hospitals systems that supply more than 100 litres per minute are available.

ARH Baulkham Hills no longer 24 hours

Thank you to the many practices who supported our trial to keep ARH Baulkham Hills open 24 hours a day. Unfortunately, despite having several advantages in patient care and better communication with our local practitioners, this has not proved to be a viable prospect financially. Therefore, this service will discontinue after the Australia Day Long Weekend. Please note however that we will remain open all day every Monday to ensure excellence in handover of cases to their regular vets after the weekend. We will also stay open all day on Christmas Eve and New Years Eve in the future

Upcoming Cardiology Clinic Day at the ARH - Strathfield

When?
The next Cardiology Clinic day is scheduled for Saturday 17th January 2009.
Please contact us for appointments as early as possible to assist scheduling for this day.

The Cardiology Clinic day with Brad Gavaghan has been introduced to compliment the current cardiology and echocardiography services offered at the Animal Referral Hospital.

Dr Brad Gavaghan has begun consulting on Saturdays, every 12 weeks at our hospital. As a brief background, Brad completed his cardiology residency at the University of California ? Davis in 1998 and was accepted as a Fellow of the Australian College in Cardiology in 2000. He currently operates a cardiology specialist practice in Brisbane.

Which cases to refer?
Cases with suspected congenital heart disease or complex arrhythmias are the most common referrals. Congenital cases that may require balloon valvuloplasty or arrhythmias that may benefit from pacemaker implantation can also be assessed at this time. Difficult-to-manage cardiomyopathy and valvular disease patients may also benefit from a cardiac assessment. Feel free to discuss the suitability of potential cases with the medicine specialists or email Brad at bjgavaghan@ozemail.com.au

Fees?
As per the current ARH fee schedule for the consultation, ECG and Doppler echo examinations, plus a $40 travel surcharge.

We hope that this service will be a helpful addition to the range of referral services that you currently offer to your clients.
We now have a state-of-the-art in-house coagulation analyzer. In just minutes with a small blood sample we can get reliable measurements of Prothrombin times (PT) and Activated Partial Thromboplastin Times (APTT). This provides vital diagnostic and therapeutic information for patients with clinical signs of excessive bleeding, rodenticide poisonings, snake bite envenomations, hereditary bleeding disorder, hepatopathies and disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC).
