Cameron Whittaker(BVSc, DipVetClinStud, Diplomate ACVO)Cameron graduated from the University of Sydney in 1989 and worked in mixed practice for two years. He then completed an internship at the University of Sydney Veterinary Centre, Camden before taking up a residency at the University of Florida, USA from 1993 to 1996. In 1997 he was Assistant Professor in veterinary ophthalmology at Ohio State University, USA. Since 1998, Cameron has been working with Jeff Smith providing a specialist service. Cameron has co-authored 3 text books including Veterinary Ophthalmology 3rd Edition, Manual of Equine Practice 2nd edition, and Veterinary Clinics of North America -Ophthalmology edition. He has written almost a dozen peer reviewed papers in a variety of international clinical journals. Cameron currently provides medicine and surgery lectures and practical classes to students at the University of Sydney. He voluntarily also provides his services to the wild life at both Taronga Zoo in Sydney, and Western Plains Zoo in Dubbo. Cameron has a special interest in cataract surgery, glaucoma, corneal medicine and surgery, and exotic animal ophthalmology. |

Jeff Smith(BVSc, FACVSc, Diplomate ACVO)Jeff graduated from Sydney University in 1970 with a bachelor's degree in veterinary science. After three years in general practice, Jeff went to do his residency at Cornell University, upstate New York. Jeff passed ophthalmology specialist examinations in the USA, and was granted Diplomate status of the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists. Jeff moved back to Australia in the early 1980s, and successfully passed membership examinations in canine medicine in the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists. In 1982 Jeff passed specialist qualifications in Australia in veterinary ophthalmology becoming a Fellow in the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists. Since that time Jeff has been responsible for setting up the oldest continually running veterinary ophthalmology practice in Australia. He is also a past President of the Australian Veterinary Association (NSW Division). Jeff has a vast experience in providing both post graduate and undergraduate training. Currently he provides lectures and tutorials for the students at Sydney University in ophthalmic medicine, surgery and pathology. As well as this he is a partner in the Eye Clinic for Animals, providing a specialist ophthalmology service throughout Sydney and New South Wales. |

Our ophthalmologists successfully manage many complex eye problems that would otherwise cause discomfort and blindness. Cataract surgery can restore vision to pets, and Cameron and Jeff help hundreds of pets referred for painful and debilitating conditions such as uveitis, glaucoma, corneal ulcers, inherited eye diseases and blindness.
Consultations are available Monday-Friday at Homebush by appointment only. Jeff and Cameron also regularly take trips to Canberra and the Southern Highlands, South Coast, Orange and Bathurst and the Central Coast.
